Nestled in the serene setting of Rancho Mirage, California, our latest architectural endeavor involved transforming an aging California ranch-style home into a contemporary sanctuary. Originally structured in a half C-shaped layout typical of ranch homes, the project aimed to preserve the essence of the existing structure while introducing a distinctly modern addition.

A key challenge was seamlessly integrating the old and new architectural styles. This was addressed through the innovative use of a steel entry box and a large steel window. These elements not only made a bold architectural statement but also served as a cohesive link between the traditional ranch style and the new, taller addition. They acted as a physical and visual pivot, symbolizing the harmonious blend of two distinct architectural languages.
Central to our design philosophy was the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a profound connection with the surrounding landscape. The new additions — including the kitchen, living room, and bedroom — were designed to open generously towards the outdoors. This design approach invited the serene desert landscape and garden into the heart of the home, fostering a harmonious relationship between interior and exterior realms.

Highlighting our commitment to material contrast and tactile experience, the exterior steel box transitions into a cozy wooden interior, creating a vestibule that marks the passage from the old to the new. This play between rugged modernity and natural warmth exemplifies our architectural approach, emphasizing the use of warm, natural materials alongside clean, contemporary lines.

Our firm’s signature aesthetic is characterized by clean lines, warm materials, and the seamless blending of indoor and outdoor spaces. Walls extending from the interior to exterior spaces blur the boundaries, reinforcing our ethos of integrating living spaces with the natural environment. Strategic use of glass and openings further enhances connectivity with the external garden and landscape, ensuring that the home remains in harmony with its surroundings.

In landscaping, our approach favored gravel and ash stone strips over traditional concrete, promoting a seamless and organic flow throughout the outdoor space. This landscape design complemented the architectural choices, creating a unified aesthetic that is contemporary yet rooted in the natural context of Rancho Mirage.
